2016 marked the 400th anniversary of the death of the greatest and most famous playwright in history.

Running from March to June, the St Albans Shakespeare Festival celebrated Shakespeare’s legacy through a variety of artistic media including theatre, choral singing, symphonic music, poetry, stand-up comedy and dance. The Festival took in all 37 Shakespeare plays (and his poems) in some form, comprising 31 performances by 14 different artists and companies in a dozen locations across the city. Many events took place at the Maltings Arts Theatre, home of OVO theatre company which organised the Festival. The Festival was supported by St Albans City and District Council.
